5 Signs You Might be a Well Armed Lamb… or a Lion

Gary ‘Z’ McGee, Staff Writer Waking Times
February 25, 2015

The now famous (infamous) quote, “Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding on what to eat for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote,” which is attributed to Benjamin Franklin, but not confirmed, has been dissected left and right.

For the purpose of this article, we will not be attempting to discover the validity of the quote’s author. We will be focusing on the vitality of the well-armed lamb concept. Worrying about who wrote it is a distraction from the powerful impact of what has been written. The concept is what really matters.

I can attribute it to whomsoever I please: Gandhi, Thoreau, Genghis Khan, or even Hitler, and the concept would still be true. Besides, as Abbie Hoffman (or whoever) wrote, “You measure a democracy by the freedom it gives its dissidents, not the freedom it gives its assimilated conformists.” Having said that, let’s dive into five ways you may already be a well-armed lamb.
1.) You’ve Broken the Shepherd’s Spell

“To efficiently control the human farm, you need a majority of broken, self-attacking, insecure, shallow, vain and ambitious sheep, forever consumed by inconsequentialities like weight, abs and celebrities –and a minority of volatile, angry and dominant sheepdogs, which you can dress up in either a green (military) or a blue (police) costume and use to threaten and manage the herd.” –Stefan Molyneux (or at least someone using the alias of Stefan Molyneux)

You understand, as William Blake (or is it Blake Williams?) did, “I must create my own system, or be enslaved by another man’s.” You daily ask yourself: am I living from programming or from purpose? You realize that if you can honestly answer “from purpose” then you’re already on the path toward becoming a well-armed lamb. If you cannot, then you are more than likely living from programming, and you are inadvertently a sheep, a victim of an unhealthy culture’s programming. That is to say, you are still under the Shepherd’s spell. The Shepherd is a metaphor for perceived authority, whatsoever or whomsoever that perceived authority may be: God, government, money, husband, wife, teacher. There’s the down and dirty rub. Like Daniel Dennett said, “There is no polite way to suggest to someone that they have devoted their life to a folly.”

Here’s the thing: It’s okay that you were once living from programming. We all came from a certain cultural preconditioning, even wolves and lions. But a well-armed lamb is a creature who has had the courage to recondition the preconditioning, to, as Nietzsche said, “rebaptize our badness into the best in us.” Like Eliezer Yudkowsky said, “You are personally responsible for becoming more ethical than the society you grew up in.”

Lambs are victims of their preconditioning. Even wolves are victims of it; they are just more ruthless about it and on the other end of the power spectrum. It is only the well-armed lamb, the lamb-turned-lion, who has reconditioned the preconditioning and thus broken the Shepherd’s parochial spell. Better a day as a lion mocking wolves, than a lifetime as a lamb kowtowing to them. Indeed, a lion never loses sleep over the opinions of wolves, let alone sheep.
2.) You Practice the Zen of Fearlessness

“Regard fear as the kindling to build a big fire of fearlessness.” –Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

You understand that in order to be a force to be reckoned with in this world, you cannot come from a place of fear, but from a place of fearlessness. You live a courage-based lifestyle, having left the typical fear-based lifestyle of modern day cultures behind. You don’t seek invulnerability like a coward in a tank afraid of the world. You have become absolutely vulnerable like a ninja in the light fearless of the world. Your courage is your intimacy with fear, your embracing of risk. Like Jonathan Lear said, “To be human is necessarily to be a vulnerable risk-taker; to be a courageous human is to be good at it.” And you are damn good at it too. Nothing is safe from your questioning heart which you use like a double edged sword to cut through the outdated way of things.

Attitude is everything, and your attitude is, “nothing can stop me, but me.” Your fearlessness is not founded upon lack of fear, but on transforming fear itself. Fearlessness is not the absence of fear; it is being absolutely terrified, but doing it anyway. You have simply decided to use fear as a steppingstone toward something greater, rather than as an emotion that cripples you into a state of cowardice. Fear is your kindling. Fear is the compost that causes the seed of your courage to become robust. You Fear is not a setback, but a reason to push back at power. Like Karl Frei said, “Attitude is the difference between ordeal and adventure.” Being afraid and doing it anyway, because it needs to be done, is always an adventure, especially when it is also an ordeal. Like the Zen proverb says, “The obstacle is the path.”
3.) You’ve Become an Autodidact of the First-Order

“You want weapons? Go to a library. Books are the best weapons in the world.” –Doctor Who

You are not well-armed with weapons necessarily (though you can be). Rather, you are well-armed with knowledge and a healthy hunger for questioning all things, especially authority. You are armed with open-mindedness, spiritual plasticity, and a hunger for the unknown. You don’t settle for answers, you question them, because you understand the fallibility of the human condition and you realize that the pursuit of truth is never ending. Nothing is free from your intelligent interrogation, especially yourself. You purposefully poke holes in things that are considered sacred, and then question them to the nth degree. Like Richard Feynman said, “I would rather have questions that can’t be answered than answers that can’t be questioned.”

In order not to fool yourself too much, you have chosen self-education based upon the method of fallibilism: a philosophical principle of being constantly and consistently open to new evidence that could contradict some previously held position, belief, or expectation. It is implied in the natural sciences. Like Richard Feynman also said, “Science is what we have learned about how to keep from fooling ourselves.” You realize the first step toward gaining wisdom: question everything; the second step: question the answers. The third step: repeat, ad infinitum. The knowledge gained will be painful and will almost never meet people’s expectations, which is why it’s better not to have expectations to begin with. Besides, you understand that it’s better to relish in the pain of knowledge than to languish in the bliss of ignorance. Like Douglas Adams said, “I’d take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.”
4.) You Break the Rules Like an Artist

“Creativity is the greatest form of rebellion.” –Osho

You know all the rules but the rules don’t know you. Armed with the power of your imagination and the mighty spirit of your creativity, you are the tip of the spearhead, the point of the pencil, the aim of the paint can, the apex of the artistic soul. Your art is your shining light. But it’s also your blackest darkness. It tampers the sun even as it trumps the shadows. You use it as a lighthouse of hope for the powerless and a dark beacon of warnings for the powerful. It cannot be ignored. The pen is mightier than the sword, and you are the walking, talking personification of that fact, disturbing the comfortable and comforting the disturbed. You are constantly in the throes of metanoia. Indeed, you are here to cause a creative ruckus, to disrupt the apathy of silence, to free the unfree by picking the lock of their imagination. Like Howard Zinn said, “They’ll say we’re disturbing the peace, but there is no peace. What really bothers them is that we are disturbing the war.”

In the face of war and all warmongers, you are strategically mobilizing peace and open-mindedness through your art, because you realize as Martin Luther King Jr. did, that, “Those who love peace must learn to organize as effectively as those who love war.” Your artwork is the epitome of peaceful organization precisely because it is politically dissident and confronts the powers-that-be like David facing Goliath. Your art liberates the human mind from the dominion of dogma, liberates the human body from the dominion of property, and liberates the human soul from the shackles of poor human governance. Like Arundhati Roy said, “Our strategy should be not only to confront empire, but to lay siege to it. To deprive it of oxygen. To shame it. To mock it. With our art, our music, our literature, our stubbornness, our joy, our brilliance, our sheer relentlessness – and our ability to tell our own stories. Stories that are different from the ones we’re being brainwashed to believe.”
5.) You Lead by Ego/Eco-Moral Example

“Most of the luxuries, and many of the so called comforts of life, are not only indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind. With respect to luxuries and comforts, the wisest have ever lived a more simple and meager life than the poor.” –Henry David Thoreau

You are no longer a victim of the world, you are the world. You have matured out of both codependence and independence and into a heightened state of interdependence. You are superior to circumstance. Your ego no longer has any power over you. It is your puppet, not the other way around. The same thing goes for your shadow. You are their puppet master. They are your tools, but they are sacred tools. You use them to master your soulcraft: human flourishing. You use them to leverage cosmos into absolute interdependence. Like Bill Plotkin said, “Once one has said yes to the call to adventure, the ego is securely in the grip of the soul, and the soul serves notice that the ego will not emerge unchanged.”

Your ego is the tip of the sword of your moral reasoning. Your shadow is the cut of your passion, setting the too-moral goody two-shoes on notice. The two combined make you an amoral agent par excellence, tricking the immoral culture into a state of morality and tricking the cosmos into revealing its secrets. What it reveals is the interconnection of all things: an eco-consciousness that cannot be ignored. Your response to such an all-encompassing force is nothing short of eco-moral: a deep respect for the balance and moderation of cosmic law. With this knowledge you put the “well” into being a well-armed lamb. You are a force to be reckoned with precisely because you are a force of love that refuses to back down. Like Derrick Jensen said, “Love does not imply pacifism.” Your love is a lion’s love: fierce and courageous. Sheep may vacillate. Wolves may be certain. But you make them both tremble with a love gained from hard-earned pain. Let them tremble, or let them join you. Either way, you’re a lamb-turned-lion despite them. Your destiny is not left up to chance, for you have chosen to be well-armed.

Disclosure and the Secret History of Our Solar System

February 25, 2015

Is the world going crazy or is it all part of a perfect plan? When it's David talking with George Noory, you already know where it's going. We will discuss the five million-year secret history of our solar system, the space program, Ascension and David's epic new TV show, Disclosure, launching this week!

The interesting accounts I am about to share with you are the result of many ongoing, multi-hour briefings from very highly-positioned insiders.
These are people who work for various "government" (military-industrial complex) groups in what they would call the "Space Program."
These people have repeatedly proven their bonafides through a variety of means.
We have been compiling and cataloging their data, and scientificaly verifying it whenever possible, since this website launched in 1999.
Our circle of trusted contacts keeps growing. There are many contenders who spout disinformation, but there are genuine sources as well.
We have had two major new sources come to the forefront in the last four months, creating a dramatic expansion in the knowledge base.
Hundreds of specific data points have been cross-verified -- information that had never been published on this website or anywhere else, but that other vetted-out insiders revealed independently, over the last 20 years.
The truth is far, far stranger than fiction. For safety, we have held much of this back until the new data can be absorbed, cataloged and integrated.

Right now there is a war going on in space, directly over our heads. It really heated up in mid-December of last year and is ongoing.
That war is reaching a decisive tipping-point. It appears that it will turn out very favorably for the vast majority of everyone on earth.
In fact, it appears that it is already impossible for the Cabal to win this. Time still has to play out before it is visible to everyone, but the end is almost certain.
Many of the power elite groups on this planet are in a state of complete chaos and turmoil as a result.
Events unfolding on earth could be seen as a "proxy war" between groups of "good guys" or angels and "bad guys" operating in, with and around Earth.
"Good" and "Bad" is obviously a question of your perspective. From the elite Cabal perspective, what is happening to them is very bad.
However, the people who are fighting against the Cabal do very much seem to have humanity's best interests in mind.
This alliance is a combination of earth governments, earth-based factions of the space program, and newly-arrived ETs who mean business.

It appears that major events are about to unfold on earth, involving the exposure and defeat of the Cabal.
This appears to be coming in the form of vastly greater disclosures from the Snowden documents than what we have seen so far, among many other things.
The "good guy" ETs have now enforced a no-fly zone around the earth. Any high-level Cabal people who try to fly out are being shot down.
Their ships are cloaked, but when one of them gets shot down, we hear about epic meteor sightings -- and then the cleanup crews rush in.
There have been a number of very high-profile and unusual "meteors" lately -- including daylight-bright flashes of light, sonic booms and the ground shaking for up to 15 seconds upon impact.
I have been quietly cataloging all of these events, or at least the ones that get publicity -- and will summarize them in later postings.
We also had a major UFO crash occur in just the last few days in Canada, in another epic shoot-down. It is considered a huge mess on the inside track.
Lots of disinfo is being put out about it, including all manner of Photoshopped images -- but the event itself was very, very real.

There are many secrets -- and many levels of the game that could qualify as the "biggest secret."
One level of "the biggest secret" is the simple fact that there are many different ET human or humanoid groups working in and around the Earth every day.
Some of them look so much like us that they could walk around comfortably and no one would know the difference.
Some of these groups would be positive, or service-to-others, while other groups would be on the negative, or service-to-self spectrum.
The idea of "shapeshifters" is not true, at least in any biological sense. There are technologies that can do this holographically but it is not biological.

Our worldly governments were largely kept out of this greater ET community, as per the ETs' own rules, up until we developed the technology to take us into space.
The Germans achieved this first -- before they even officially became the Nazis in World War II.
All of our secret development of space has followed in the aftermath of this initial series of events.
Although the Nazis lost the war on earth, they did effectively win it in space.
They quickly discovered there were all manner of ETs out there who would attack and shoot down their ships.
In a very sad turn of events, the Nazis cut a deal with the nastiest ETs on the block for protection -- a group of reptilian humanoids called the Dracos.
This group is known in the Law of One series as the Orion Confederacy -- and they do have several systems under their control within that constellation.

Another level of the "biggest secret" is that our solar system has been actively colonized -- with super-advanced technology -- for at least the last five million years.
The Nazis found advanced ancient ruins in Antarctica, on the Moon and on Mars, and re-occupied them, building them out with new construction while having a healthy head-start from what was already there.
Two and a half weeks ago now, I announced that I was going to be leaking a vast treasure-trove of insider information on this very subject, live on stage at the Conscious Life Expo.
I did not telegraph it until the day of the event itself, for security purposes.

The scope and depth of formerly-classified info that I revealed in that show has sent seismic shockwaves through the insider community.
The event itself was wildly popular, with a standing-room-only crowd that stretched through five hallways in the hotel before everyone was let in.
This was a tour-de-force of never-before-revealed insider info.
We have already had one person get very aggressively threatened as a result of these leaks -- even though he himself was not responsible for the majority of the information.
I also found out that some of this data was intended for "controlled release" in smaller packets, probably with disinfo included, and this has thrown all of those plans into total disarray.

To awaken this energy, the mind must have no resistance

Now, how do we awaken in ourselves an energy that has its own momentum, that is its own cause and effect, an energy that has no resistance and does not deteriorate? How does one come by it? The organized religions have advocated various methods, and by practicing a particular method one is supposed to get this energy. But methods do not give this energy. The practice of a method implies conformity, resistance, denial, acceptance, adjustment, so that whatever energy one has is merely wearing itself out. If you see the truth of this, you will never practice any method. That is one thing. Secondly, if energy has a motive, an end towards which it is going, that energy is self-destructive. And for most of us, energy does have a motive, does it not? We are moved by a desire to achieve, to become this or that, and therefore our energy defeats itself. Thirdly, energy is made feeble, petty, when it is conforming to the past -and this is perhaps our greatest difficulty. The past is not only the many yesterdays but also every minute that is being accumulated, the memory of the thing that was over a second before. This accumulation in the mind is also destructive of energy.

So, to awaken this energy, the mind must have no resistance, no motive, no end in view, and it must not be caught in time as yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Then energy is constantly renewing itself and therefore not degenerating. Such a mind is not committed, it is completely free, and it is only such a mind that can find the unnameable, that extraordinary something which is beyond words. The mind must free itself from the known to enter into the unknown.

The Matrix Program is Crashing

It is. It’s outdated programming and the engineers of deceit can’t keep up. The vibrational changes are exceeding their capabilities. You know how your phone or computer’s software goes out of date, and new programs can’t operate? It’s the same thing. The imitators of creation can’t maintain a current operating system any longer in the face of this Universal shift.

And it’s driving them nuts.

Just look at the desperation we’re witnessing. Crude military and police state maneuvers are only one aspect. The biggest clue is seeing the previously incremental and now hyperbolic use of monstrous lies that are becoming so transparent and unbelievable to just about anyone. Agreed, there are the entranced apathetics who swallow anything, but we’re witnessing a meltdown before our eyes.

If you can’t see it, look again.

You Want Proof?

First of all you’re in the wrong mindset if you’re looking only for data or left brained evidence, although it’s out there for those who can see. When we come to understand the vibrational workings of our holographic reality everything takes on new dimensions and opens us up to understanding these more esoteric notions.

Those with hearts that can see feel this. I say hearts because much of what we need to grasp or at least track is intuitive. Taking all of the information and dot connecting and personal spiritual experience together paints very clear pictures, we just need to trust what we’re seeing and learning. When we explore these realities we’re sensing we start to notice how they’re manifesting.

Forbidding free speech, shooting civilians with no cause, obvious mega bullshit in the news, wars with no possible end, deliberate poisoning, starvation and dumbing down of populations? I mean, c’mon.

But it’s kind of a conscious or spiritual symbiosis we’re experiencing. They all work together. But ignoring the spiritual and metaphysical as “evidence” in conjunction with such obvious manifestations is why this world has devolved to its current state. Previous enlightened civilizations and earth connected tribes took this to heart. Our current imposed paradigm does nothing of the sort.

The Computer Analogy

It’s just like expired or outdated software. Their programs can’t keep up with the changes the cosmos is bringing to our planet and race. That’s exactly it. While they’ve literally gotten away with murder for millennia and are working furiously to enforce their “programs” at so many levels, the time’s up. Sorry Charlie, but you’ve been superceded, or should I say “super seeded”. The new upgraded paradigm is taking over fellas.

It’s just a matter of time before your whole wicked system crashes.

The shift is moving through their lower level grip and on into massive empowerment and transcension beyond the net they’ve laid for humanity.

It’s got to be frustrating the hell out of these creeps. Imagine, the very thing you’re trying to encase in every way possible keeps morphing before your eyes. They can throw up matrix program after program but their perceived petri dish subjects just keep finding ways to survive and grow. What irony the Universe has.

Hence the Transhuman Agenda – Things They Think They Can Control

Humanity is getting out of hand, in their eyes. All the while we’re being empowered – by our own awakening and resultant commitment to truth, but also by a fundamental vibrational shift we’re undergoing. No savior, no galactic battlestars. It’s us, and an organic consciousness evolution at the deepest level with a living, expanding and enveloping Universe.

Awakening with Creation Itself.

Anyone who’s woken up to almost any degree understands everything is interconnected. Even “modern” physics is arriving at this reality, all while mainstream thinking ignores the profound ramifications. That we’re all interconnected not just as a race, but with the earth and the cosmos in such a fundamental way is a game changer. While this has been known for eons, our current control model cannot even begin to acknowledge this fact. To these oligarchs and self-appointed maniacal masterminds, no matter what powers they’re summoning, that truth is something apparently well beyond their debased comprehension.

It’s out of their league.

Sure, they have their satanic rituals and tap into other dimensional entities, but it’s child’s play compared to the True picture of our all Powerful Creative Universe. That they live in rebellion against this Force is a known reality for millennia, and even alluded to by spiritual traditions and native shamanic teachings alike for ages. Bringing this understanding “down to earth” is another story.

This is why the transhumanism agenda is so important to them. This merging of man with machine has been in the works for a long time. Clipping the link with our humanity by short circuiting the human creation is an obvious next step for these would-be controllers. Agreed, they’ve made it a fad and carefully groomed acceptance of such a trend, but it’s going to fritz and die in the junkyard of temporal existence. It can’t stand, never mind last, in such a creative force field.

Time will bear this out, as has happened to previous off-course civilizations.

Is This For Real?

It’s up to us. We have everything going for us. But our will and actions need to be aligned with this transition. We can ignore it or respond. The sanctity of our free will cannot be violated. Either we get paddling and ride the wave or it crashes on us and perhaps dissipates on the shores of time for lack of recognition or response.
And the whole cycle may need to be repeated. Not a nice destiny.

I don’t know.

I know I’m not coming back. I’m done with this insanity and am doing my damnedest to change things this time around. If we all did it won’t get repeated, but time will tell. Not many seem to be willing to respond, even though their lives and their children and grandchildren’s lives are at stake. Talk about self imposed defeat and debilitation.

Either way, the matrix will collapse. But the true civilization of love, peace, harmony and abundance awaits manifesting.

Is it time?

I think so. It is for me.

How about you?

Love, Zen

We must be aware of how we dissipate energy

To bring about a good society, human beings have to change. You and I must find the energy, the impetus, the vitality to bring about this radical transformation of the mind, and that is not possible if we do not have enough energy. We need a great deal of energy to bring about a change within ourselves, but we waste our energy through conflict, through resistance, through conformity, through acceptance, through obedience. It is a waste of energy when we are trying to conform to a pattern. To conserve energy we must be aware of ourselves, how we dissipate energy. This is an age-long problem because most human beings are indolent; they would rather accept, obey, and follow. If we become aware of this indolence, this deep-rooted laziness, and try to quicken the mind and the heart, the intensity of it again becomes a conflict, which is also a waste of energy.

Our problem, one of the many that we have, is how to conserve this energy, the energy that is necessary for an explosion to take place in consciousness: an explosion that is not contrived, that is not put together by thought, but an explosion that occurs naturally when this energy is not wasted. Conflict in any form, at any level, at any depth of our being, is a waste of energy.

Academic freedom is under threat in India: Amartya Sen

Sagarika Ghose,
Feb 21, 2015, 02.15AM IST

NEW DELHI: A day after it became public that Nobel laureate Amartya Sen has stepped down as chancellor of Nalanda University without seeking a second term, Sen lashed out at what he called the lack of academic freedom in India under the Modi government.

In an interview to TOI, Sen said, "Governments must understand that winning a Lok Sabha election does not give you permission to undermine the autonomy of academic institutions, or for that matter, the courts or the upper house of Parliament. Universities don't have the power of courts or the upper house so they are easy prey. You can go through them like a sword through butter."

The renowned economist said, "Academic freedom is based on the government understanding the limits of its formal power as opposed to its actual power and what they are expected to do: they are expected to listen to the voice of the professoriate and the voice of the people in the university.
Amartya Sen said that looking at the way the HRD ministry is functioning, and the interference in universities and in bodies like the ICHR, academic freedom across the board is threatened.

Shadow of the Shaman: 5 Reasons Being a Shaman Sucks (is Awesome)

Gary ‘Z’ McGee, Staff Writer
Waking Times

“It is easy to go down into Hell; night and day, the gates of dark Death stand wide; but to climb back again, to retrace one’s steps to the upper air — there’s the rub, the task.” –Virgil

Ghost talker? Vision poet? Soothsayer? Oracle? Bridge between worlds? There are many ways to describe shamans and the shamanism they practice, but basically shamanism is the most ancient spirituality, and for the most part you don’t choose it –it chooses you. Shamanism is mankind’s primordial soul-signature, tapping the cornerstone of the human leitmotif. Shamans are psycho-ecological vehicles for spiritual entanglement, and they realize that we are all unique expressions of the same ubiquitous energy. But they also realize that very few of us are actually aware of that fact. And even fewer are able to do something about it. As such, shamans are unique expressions of the human condition who are aware of their connection to all things, and who have acquired mysterious methods for doing something about it.

Although it’s a deeply powerful form of spirituality, it should not be taken lightly; or if it is taken lightly, it should be taken with a wholesome helping of “humble pie” along with a healthy side of “a humor of the most high.” This is because shamanism is a lopsided double edged sword. The ecstasy on the one side cuts deep and can be genuinely ecstatic, but the agony on the other side cuts to the soul and can be devastatingly dismal. The pain that comes from such knowledge can be a crippling thing, especially coming from a culture that’s hung-up on the bliss of its own ignorance. Like Wei Wu Wei said, “In order to be effective truth must penetrate like an arrow — and that is likely to hurt.” The truth hurts, but cosmic truth hurts most of all. Shamans are the one’s becoming intimate with such pain. Here are five ways being a shaman totally sucks but is also secretly awesome.

1.) You will be shunned by friends and family:

“What is it we are questing for? It is the fulfillment of that which is potential in each of us. Questing for it is not an ego trip; it is an adventure to bring into fulfillment your gift to the world, which is yourself. There is nothing you can do that’s more important than being fulfilled. You become a sign, you become a signal, transparent to transcendence; in this way you will find, live, become a realization of your own personal myth.” –Joseph Campbell

Shamanism grabs your Destiny by the throat and does not let go. Once it clamps on with its death-grip hold, there is no going back. The shamanic initiation can appear spontaneously, as a blunder, or as an unlucky (lucky) break. It can arrive through super-serendipity, as a chance occurrence, or a cruel twist of fate. It can come through new life, or through unexpected death, or both. It can come from another shaman, or even a raging thunderstorm. There’s no telling when or where it will happen, but when it happens you know it. The universe lines up like a divine fisherman, and you are the magical fish caught on the hook of primordial Time. The kind of knowledge gained is a bone-knowledge, a marrow-deep wisdom, a soul-caliber comprehension. This will, in small and large ways, cause complete havoc in the hyperreal world of the average person. Such havoc is scary for most people, and since your friends and your family include most people, they will more than likely be scared of your newfound unorthodox spirituality.

Their shunning is a double edged sword: you will be dubbed crazy, insane, and eccentric on the one side, and arrogant, conceited, and even selfish on the other side. But they don’t even understand the nature of selfishness; as Oscar Wilde wrote, “Selfishness is not living your life as you wish. It is asking others to live their life as you wish.” You understand that it’s society itself that’s being selfish for asking you to live the way it wishes. Your refusal to be pigeonholed by the status quo is why they despise you. Anybody who takes up the lifestyle or attitude of artificiality will not be able to stand you, because you have become a natural being. You are now of the earth. You have re-discovered your roots, through soulful self-interrogation and self-rewilding. By your very presence you catalyze. You are a great fermentation. The unconscious of anyone living in an artificial manner will sense you as doubly dangerous. Everything about you will irritate them, especially your sense of humor. They sense nature in you, and they are scared shitless of it. But don’t lose heart. You are vitally necessary to tonalize this otherwise atonal world.

2.) Love itself becomes a painful ability:

“If you love and have desires, let these be your desires: To know the pain of too much tenderness; to be wounded by your own understanding of love; and to bleed willingly and joyfully.” –Khalil Gibran

Here’s the thing: we live in a world filled with victims who have been victimized by a victimizing culture. Victims are victims precisely because they are afraid. Once they cease being afraid, once they quit allowing their fears to control them and become intimate with Fear instead, they cease being victims and become warriors. Shamans are spiritual warriors par excellenceprecisely because they are healers of fear. They help people move from a state of fear and expectation to a higher state of awareness where imagination is free to reimagine itself. Like Stephen Levine said, “To heal is to touch with love that which was previously touched by fear.” They realize that fearlessness is not the rejection of fear, it is intimacy with fear. It’s in the intimacy where the healing takes place. That’s where the ashes can be transformed into a Phoenix. Like Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

Love itself is the seer’s tool, the shaman’s soulcraft. Just as only love can drive out hate, only love can drive out fear. Only intimacy with fear can transform fear into courage. The catch: this particular flavor of intimacy is excruciatingly painful. It tears apart the soul with its counterintuitive energy, but then it puts it back together again with the unconditional glue that maintains the unity of opposites. It’s a deep, cosmic love, an absolute love that subsumes the slings and arrows of vicissitude, but also leaves its practitioner in a constant state of existential pain that he/she must be able to resolve in the hear-and-now while also understanding that it will ultimately never really be resolved. Almost like the joy of the journey is always now, whether or not the goal of the journey is ever achieved. Only the “joy” is no joy at all but rather an intimacy with pain, a primordial jouissance. Like Joseph Campbell said, “The schizophrenic is drowning in the same waters in which the mystic swims with delight.”

3.) You will experience Soul-crushing loneliness:

“The distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.” –Albert Einstein

Never underestimate the ignorant power of “the armor of the ‘I.’” It forms itself under the naïve assumption that things are separate. It is constructed under the desperate assertion of maintaining a separate identity. It closes you off until all of your powers of perception can only “see” through the narrow chinks of the all-too-human cavern of self-bias. Most of us grow up in a world where this sort of armor is constantly being manufactured. We become attached to it. It becomes a kind of hyperreal skin. Shamans are the ones ripping that skin off, which is likely to hurt. But we have only to remember that it’s no skin at all –it’s metal, it’s machine-like. It is not you! It is a prison disguised as you. A shaman can help you by opening the door to your prison, but only you can walk through it to taste the freedom on the other side. But, fair warning: it is going to hurt like hell. You will experience one of mankind’s most debilitating pains: loneliness.

Here’s the thing: you have to feel lost and lonely in order to feel the real You as you. You are a microcosm within a macrocosm, a desperate tiny thing in an otherwise calm universe, but you are also an aspect of the universe. You can no more separate the micro from the macro than you can the human from the natural; both are needed to put the whole into holistic. This is the great lesson of loneliness: it’s only when you’re alone that you realize you’re never alone. Like Nietzsche said, “The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.” Such privilege is a double-edged sword. It will liberate you on the one side, but it will crush you with loneliness on the other side. Do not balk. Self-pity is poison for a shaman. Like Rumi said, “Wherever you stand, be the soul of that place.” Seek the center of your loneliness and transform it into interdependence. Loneliness is merely the shadow of the self. Embrace the shadow, dance with it in the abyss, and you will never (always) be alone again.

4.) You will be destroyed over and over again between worlds:

“The greatest mystery is not that we have been flung at random between the profusion of matter and of the stars, but that within this prison we can draw from ourselves images powerful enough to deny our nothingness.” –Andre Malraux

Your soul will constantly be forced to eat itself. You will face death every day in the abyss. You have to constantly be able to “die” and rebirth your own energy. Like Henry Miller said, “We must die as egos and be born again in the swarm, not separated and self-hypnotized, but individual and related.” You must be able to destroy yourself and then rebuild yourself. This is the shamanic dance on God’s forehead, the eternal dance on the Divine Third Eye: the uncanny ability to be born, to die, and to be reborn, over and over again, and in each new life, to become a thing which is more capable of subsuming cosmos than in the life before. Where you are receptive to stimuli to which, in the time before, you were insensate. This is done between worlds. It’s done in the shadowy unconscious of the soul. It’s done in the abyss of the human condition, where the You of you is the same thing as the They of them. In short, it’s the death of your ego. And perhaps nothing hurts more than ego-death.

The death of the ego is no easy task. Ego-death is identity-death is self-annihilation. It leads to a dark night of the soul. And if you are lucky (unlucky) enough to have multiple ego-deaths in your life you will reap the rewards (penalties) of having multiple dark nights of the soul as well. If all that weren’t enough, you will also experience the ego-death of other people, and the dark night of their soul will usually prove to be more excruciating than your own. In fact, the more times your soul is forced to eat itself, the more times your ego dies and is reborn again, the more interdependently connected you will become with the experiences of others. This too is a double edged sword, but the sharper the double edged sword the smoother the ego-death; which basically just means it gets easier with practice. Indeed, existential masochism becomes an art form at this level, and provides the perfect platform for meta-empathy to emerge.

5.) You will experience soulbreaking meta-empathy:

“Undifferentiated consciousness, when differentiated, becomes the world.” –Vedanta

Shamans are neither scientists nor priests, but artists. They are Technicians of the Sacred, immersed in the numinous tapestry of the cosmos. A vital aspect of that tapestry is the human condition, and when it comes to the human condition, the artistry of the shaman shines like gold in dark times. The secret of their art is both very simple and very difficult: healthy detachment. It’s simple because all you have to do is realize that everything is connected and all things are in a constantly changing dance of interdependence. It’s difficult because you imagine that you have a static sense of self (ego) which seems at odds with your dynamic sense of connection (soul). But it’s not at odds at all. Your ego is just as much a tool as your soul is, you simply have to let go of what you think your ego wants in order to make possible what your soul intends. This requires heartbreak. It requires breaking your heart so wide open that the universe has no other choice but to fall in. Heartbreak equals soul-awake. And once your soul is awake, that’s when the real shamanic process begins: soulbreak.

Soulbreak, like heartbreak, opens us up to the vast knowledge hidden within the nature of pain, but it also teaches us detachment. Soulbreak is detachment in the moment. If you are truly detached, your mental-spirit-body becomes a mighty tool for clear seeing. Detachment is existential seeing. Existential seeing is meta-empathy. You must be able to act with compassion, but without attachment. Most love is conditional, most compassion is indiscriminate. As a shaman you have to come from a place of unconditional love. The shamanic experience involves tremendous self-discipline and the will to be focused even when such focus is painful. And it is painful. With this ability we move to the depths of another person’s emotional state and we can “see” from their worldview and understand what makes them healthy or not. When they are unhealthy, you feel it. And in a world where the majority of people are unhealthy, you become the walking personification of pain. Indeed, meta-empathy even becomes ecological. You feel deeply the unhealthiness of the broken system and the painful disconnect between Mother Nature and the human soul.

At the end of the day, it is the job of shamans to shake people out of ordinary, habitual states of mind and to reawaken latent faculties. This can be a soul-quaking experience of world-shattering pain. But there is a vast reservoir of knowledge in such pain, and shamans are the ones seeking it out and imaginatively and courageously transforming it into soul, into art, and into new knowledge. Through daily acts of courage and a willingness to reveal symbolic ways to transcend the darkness of the human condition, shamans are the personification of being the change they wish to see in the world. They are free to triumph over terror. They are no longer interested in the petty pursuit of meaning. They would rather the power that comes from creating it.

The 5 Step Recovery Program for Plutocrats

(Gary 'Z' McGee, a former Navy Intelligence Specialist turned philosopher, is the author of Birthday Suit of God and The Looking Glass Man. His works are inspired by the great philosophers of the ages and his wide awake view of the modern world.)

"There is nothing more difficult to take in hand,
more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success,
than to take the lead in the introduction
of a new order of things."

The first thing you're probably asking, here at the outset, is what is a New-hero?

The answer is complicated. I've written about the subject in the past, loosely at the end of this article, and more in detail in this article. But basically a new-hero is someone who goes from being a hero with power, to a hero over power; someone who goes from using their power in egotistical-tyrannical ways, to a person who uses their power in ecomoral-compassionate ways.

A new-hero is someone who has the ability to turn the tables on the very notion of power itself. It just so happens that the people in the most ideal position to do this are the plutocrats of the world. Just imagine all the Bruce Waynes of the world becoming real life Batmen.

Too much for you? Okay then, simply imagine all the Bruce Waynes of the world becoming non-greedy, self-sacrificing, compassionate philanthropists instead of greedy, self-idolizing, unsympathetic wealth-hoarders.

Or just imagine they're all like the fun-loving, simple-living, head-out-of-his-ass President of Uruguay, Jose Mujica.

Some might say that the subject of this article is overly idealistic. Some might say its message is downright crazy. It is this and more. It is audacious and then some, perhaps even insouciant. But, and here's the rub, the author doesn't care what the critics might say. It needs to be said.

If anybody wants to refute it, write an article and refute it. I'll be the first to read it. What matters more than people being comfortable with the way things are? Challenging that very comfort with a healthier way of being a human being in this world.

To that end, I challenge the plutocrats of the world with the following five ways to become a New-hero.

1.) ReconditionYour Status Quo Conditioning

"A hero is not a champion of things become
but of things becoming;
the dragon to be slain by him
is a precisely the monster
of the status quo."
Yo! Plutocrat!

Yeah, you with dollar signs for pupils and a clinched fist for a heart.

You are a victim. You have been psychologically and morally compromised by the system. You have been spiritually deceived. You have been existentially bamboozled.

The system has convinced you that greed is honorable, that profits matter more than people, that ownership trumps relationships, that power matters more than compassion, that material possession matters more than personal integrity, that money is greater than the heart, that equity trumps equality, and that competition is more important than cooperation.

This is nothing but machine-reasoning from a machine-state with a machine-heart spewing machine-lies from its machine-mouth.

But, like Noam Chomsky said,
"States are not moral agents; people are."
If you would be people, and not machines, extract yourself from the status quo state, and become a human being.

Recondition the precondition. Become an agent for humanity instead of an agent for an inhumane state. Transform yourself. Turn the shadows of your past into stepping stones toward a better you.

Like Nietzsche said,
"The great epochs in our lives are at the points when we gain the courage to rebaptize our badness into the best in us."
I dare you to have such courage.

I dare you to look into your own soul and find a deeper meaning than what the status quo has conditioned you into thinking is meaningful. I dare you to think outside the box (or overflowing safe). I dare you to become better than the plutocratic status quo.

Like Eliezer Yudkowsky said,
"You are personally responsible for becoming more ethical than the society you grew up in."

2.) Get Power Over Power

"Nearly all men can stand adversity,
but if you want to test a man's character,
give him power."
Abraham Lincoln
Plutocrats the world over, I'm putting your character to the test.

I'm triple-dog daring you to become a hero over power as opposed to simply a hero with power. I'm challenging you to question the very concept of power. If you question far enough, you will discover that you are doing it wrong, very wrong. True power is not lording your wealth over the poor. True power is using your wealth to liberate the poor.

True power is not syphoning wealth from the poor through system-regulated Ponzi schemes.

True power is expiating wealth through sustainable means, despite the system. Power tends to corrupt, we all know this. And it will corrupt absolutely if it is not regulated.

As it stands, you are the only person who can regulate your own power. You might think your hoarding of power and wealth is well-intended but,

Like Malcom Gladwell wrote,
"There comes a point where even the best-intentioned application of power and authority begins to backfire."
And it most definitely is backfiring, whether you realize it or not.

You probably imagine that your sense of worth is wrapped up in how much money you can make. It's not. Your worth has only ever been determined by how healthy you are and how well you treat others. That's it. That wad-of-money you have for a brain needs to be excommunicated.

You want to know why you suffer, and why you are existentially unhappy: because you are chasing numbers. You are chasing power. You're like a chicken with its head cut off chasing its own tail.

And if that doesn't explain it well enough, heed the wise words of the Buddha,
"Attachment is the root of suffering."
You want to get power over power? Let that shit go! Expiate your wealth, lest it destroy your soul. Go from being an unhealthy hoarder to being a healthy provider.

And practicing capital munificence is a good way to do exactly that.

3.) Practice Capital Munificence

"The first task is to win something;
the second, to banish the feeling that has been won;
otherwise it is a burden."
I dare you to have the courage to transform the ritual of greedy moneymaking into the far superior ritual of moral prestige.

The best way to do this is through capital munificence. Paraphrasing myself, imagine that you are the head hunter of a tribe, and that we are your tribe. Imagine you are a prolific hunter with great prowess, skilled in all weapons.

There are other hunters, sure, but none with your unique abilities (whether given to you by nature or by nurture, through skill or through luck).

Imagine all the hunters go on a great hunt. At the end of this hunt you end up in the 1 percentile of hunters who gets the greatest amount of kills, where the vast majority of hunters (90%) end up with exactly zero kills.

Maybe those other hunters were lazy. Maybe they were unskilled. Maybe their weapons weren't adequate enough. Maybe they were simply unlucky.

Maybe it was a combination of all of these. It matters little the reason. What really matters is that they, and their innocent families, will most certainly starve. Unless?

…Unless you, the most skilled of skilled hunters, decides to share his/her meat (wealth) with the rest of the tribe so as to maintain a healthy tribe: this is eco-moral awareness and compassion for others.

Of course you would get more of the meat, and the choicest cuts: this is ego-moral awareness and self-compassion.

But at least the other people in the tribe (world) wouldn't starve.

As it stands, the problem with the wealth and inequality divide isn't a systemic problem. It is a psychosocial problem. It's a value-system disorder. When acquired wealth occupies a higher position than compassion, when fame is admired more than wisdom, when success becomes more important than love, the culture itself over-values Ego and must be regarded as psychologically and socially unsustainable.

Like the old Cree Prophecy said,
"When all the trees have been cut down, when all the animals have been hunted, when all the waters are polluted, when all the air is unsafe to breathe, only then will you discover you cannot eat money."
You will probably discover more meaning in eating your money than in hoarding it.

4.) Practice Reverse Dominance

"In a strange Kung ritual
known as "insulting the meat,"
when a man hunts and kills an animal,
especially a large one,
he is expected to act extremely modest
and to minimize the importance
of his contribution to the tribe.
In addition, the other tribe members
insult his kill by proclaiming
how small and worthless it is."
Stephanie Segal
"Accountability" Does that word scare you? It shouldn't.

If it does, you are probably doing something wrong or immoral. Accountability is simply social responsibility. Human beings are social creatures. In order to be a healthy human being in this world, you will have to be held accountable by other healthy human beings.

With great power comes great responsibility, sure, but the reverse is also the case. The best way to be responsible with your power, and powerful with your responsibility, is to hold yourself accountable, first and foremost. Insult your own meat.

There's no reason you should have to wait for others to do it for you. But until you are capable of insulting your own meat, you can be damn sure others will insult it for you. This entire article is insulting your meat. Deal with it.

If you would be a human being who cares about life, then practicing reverse dominance is a way to maintain humility and a healthy perspective while having more power than you probably should have.

Practice it on yourself. Practice it on your fellow plutocrats, like this guy did. Practice it on the entire notion of hierarchy being the best thing for human beings.

A huge part of being responsible with your power is implementing leveling mechanisms that keep you humble so that power never gets to the point to where it becomes corrupt.

Like Derrick Jensen wrote,
"We are the governors as well as the governed. This means that all of us who care about life need to force accountability onto those who do not."

5.) Discover a Moral Question (below video)

"Do not be too moral.
You may cheat yourself out of much life.
So aim above morality.
Be not simply good;
be good for something."
Your belief that you can "reach the top" and "be the best" has caused you to lose sight of what it really means to be the best.

It means doing the right thing. We need to return to the ethic of reciprocity: to the Golden mean, the middle-way, and the Golden ratio. Otherwise we're just boiling ignorantly like frogs in an immoral, unhealthy, unsustainable soup.

We need to ask the kinds of questions that the eco-feminist, Starhawk, asked,
"How does my spiritual practice and daily life serve the earth? How does my spiritual practice and daily life affect the poorest third of humanity? How will my spiritual practice and daily life affect the generations to come in the future?"
In short, we need to personally discover a moral question and then attempt, for the rest of our lives, to answer it.

What does it mean to embrace the Golden Mean and the Middle-way? It means living in a healthy balanced way, while having poise and grace in your relationships with people and nature. It means being healthier: mind, body, and soul. It means practicing moderation by not hoarding more than you need. It means practicing compassion by being kind to your fellow man.

There's a reason why you fail to discover meaning in money: because money is meaningless. It really is that simple.

Money is a cartoon in the brain, an abstraction of an abstraction, an invisible hook that your too-big fish-mouth has been "hooked" by. You, and you alone, plutocrat or otherwise, have the power to unhook yourself.

I beseech you, you who would be decent, healthy, moral people, don't place the value of your intrinsic life on extrinsic money.

Like Voltaire said,
"All paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value, zero."
Better to be a valuable human with zero money, than a zero with money.
Money is a tool. It always has been. You can either be a hero responsibly using a powerful tool, or an irresponsible fool being used by a powerful tool. It's your choice.
You might think that I am being too strict, or holding people to too high of a standard.

Again, deal with it.
Being a new-hero isn't supposed to be a walk in the park.
It's not all accolades and prestige. There must be sacrifice. There must be pain. It means staring self-attained power in the face, turning the tables on it, and then walking away with the truer power of humility and wisdom in your heart.

It means doing like Harry Potter did at the end of the Deathly Hallows, when he tosses the Elder Wand into nothingness. In that instant he became a new-hero.

It means doing as Maximus said he would do in the movie Gladiator, when Senator Gracchus asks him,

"And after your glorious coup, what then? You take your five thousand and… leave?"
And Maximus says,

"Yes, I will leave. The soldiers will stay here for your protection, under the guidance of the Senate."
And Gracchus says,

"So, after Rome's all yours, you just give it back to the people. Tell me why."
And Maximus says,

"Because that was a dying man's last wish. I will kill Commodus. The fate of Rome, I leave to you."
In that moment he became a new-hero. Only by being responsible with great power can one become a new-hero.

I ask you,
  • What will be your defining moment?
  • Do you have the moral fortitude and courage it takes to become a new-hero?
