Anonymous Will Release The Identity of 1000 Ku Klux Klan Members
Anonymous announced on Wednesday that they will strip the KKK of its anonymity.
The hacker group, Anonymous, is threatening to release the identity of dozens of KKK members in the near future. The tension between the groups began over a year ago during the Ferguson protests. While the community was waiting to hear whether or not Darren Wilson would be indicted, the KKK threatened to attack the Ferguson police officers sparking an Anonymous retaliation. Anonymous hacked a KKK Twitter account and leaked social media accounts which belonged to KKK members.
In a blog post on Wednesday, Anonymus announced that it will be releasing the identities of up to 1,000 klan members. The ominous and pointed blog post began by saying, “Ku Klux Klan, We never stopped watching you. We know who you are.”
Anonymous believes that the KKK is not a hate group, but is a terrorist group and that they should be treated as such. They claim to be non violent in their approach stating, “We are here to remind you once again – you summoned an unslayable dragon. Anonymous is an idea. This fight will go on as long as it has to. The aim of this operation is digital. Another cyber war trist, nothing more. We are not violent.”
The post went on to explain that they take KKK threats very seriously and they are still very concerned about the threats issued during the Ferguson protests. The group says it is not trying to attack the KKK's freedom of speech as it is their constitutional right. In the same vein of freedom of speech, however, Anonymous plans to strike back by stripping the KKK of its anonymity. The statement says,“We are stripping you of your anonymity. Again. This is our protected speech.”
Anonymous has made it very clear that they will not tolerate or grow tired of combatting the KKK’s actions: "Your threats and intimidation are unprovoked, unwanted and will not be tolerated. Enough is enough.”
